Our business has a growing portfolio of rail projects underway, and we are looking to employ a Principal Cyber Security Engineer to support our support long term contracts.

About the role

The Principal Cyber Security Engineer will act as Cyber Security Lead for key projects, planning assessment and implementation of cyber security controls and mitigations as part of the delivery of significant telecommunications and engineering projects.

Included in this role is the support and the investigation of cyber security breaches and the timely incident response.

The Principal Cyber Security Engineer will be involved in the identification and adoption of new capabilities, including support for business development and the expansion of the cyber security portfolio.

This position can be enacted in Melbourne.

Key responsibilities are outlined below:


  • Support deployment of mission-critical applications, particularly in the application of Cyber Security best practice in rail environments.

  • Technical oversight in the identification and deployment of new cyber security products.

  • Advise clients on cyber security principles application in a rail environment.

  • Compiling engineering project proposals to define goals, identify scope, background and need.

  • Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures

  • Lead the sales process for Cyber Security consulting services to our rail clients.

  • Develop and train a team of consultants to support future Cyber Security related project delivery.

  • Evaluating and source new Cyber Security services from vendors

  • Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures in the provision of telecommunications systems

  • Preparing and interpreting specifications for the use of telecommunications equipment, specifically from a cyber security perspective

  • Support the incident response to cyber security breaches.

  • Enforce compliance of cyber security requirements and provide cyber security training and awareness to staff.

  • Liaise with Suppliers, Vendors and Client representatives.

About you

To succeed in the role, you will need a passion for technology and cyber security coupled with a mindset for collaboration, teamwork, and respect.

Your skills and experience will demonstrate:


  • Formal qualifications in cyber security or extensive relevant experience.

  • Experience in cyber security for Operational Technology (OT) / Industrial Control Systems (ICS), ideally but not required in the rail industry.

  • Demonstrable technical proficiency and experience on the planning, assessment and implementation of cyber security controls.

  • Knowledge and experience on the production of cyber security plans, policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge and experience in supporting the investigation of cyber security incidents and incident response.

  • Work with other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Engineers and Technicians to solve and manage cyber security issues.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience on the IEC-62443 series of standards.

  • Highly developed written and verbal communications skills.

  • Problem-solving skills.
