Position Summary
MFA IS&T is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Engineer to join our MFA IS&T Infra Ops team. This position will report to the manager of that team . The ideal candidate must possess excellent networking implementation skills, and, when needed, 24x7 provide operational support to the networking infrastructure. This position is a critical role in the MFA’s program to maintain, and continually improve its networking operations support of the MFA’s medical enterprise.


This highly skilled Network Engineer needs to be comfortable performing as a subject matter expert in any switching, routing, LAN, and WAN technologies. Extensive experience with firewalling, monitoring/operational health management, and best in class network troubleshooting abilities is desired.


This critical position will be responsible for the administration and operational support of the MFA’s datacenter, main medical facilities, and remote site networking infrastructure which includes but is not limited to Cisco Nexus/Catalyst switches, Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco ASA firewalls, layer one network troubleshooting, VLAN configuration, and WAN technologies such as eBGP/IGMP.


Additional experience with cloud networking in Azure is strongly preferred with an understanding of IPSec tunnels, and subnetting.


Experience with Healthcare IT is required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.


• Support of network IT Operations tickets and alarm response to ensure the highest possible level of uptime.
• Break/fix response to networking issues such as VLAN misconfigurations, networking performance bottlenecks, firewall ACLs, and other internal customer related networking tickets.
• Troubleshooting of layer 1/2/3 networking connectivity issues with end users, stakeholders, and customers.
• Review of ongoing networking operations, and support of engineering projects with a focus on monitoring, alarming, and maintaining the operations of new and existing systems.
• Perform networking firmware upgrades, hardware upgrades, and implementation of other datacenter network gear requiring a network connection.
• Configuration of wireless networks including but not limited to SSID channel configuration, VLAN configurations, DHCP server settings, and SDWAN settings.
• Onsite datacenter support of wiring fiber, QSFPs, Ethernet cables, switches, firewalls, servers, SANs, UPSs, and other VPN appliances.
• Occasional travel to remote sites/offsite Datacenter may be required on an as needed basis.

Education


• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or 5 years of industry equivalent experience
• CCNA or CCIE Cisco strongly desired
• CCNP Security strongly desired
• Other Vendor Specific certifications such as Palo Alto, Juniper, or SolarWinds a plus


Experience


• Minimum 7 years of experience in a Network Engineering role.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in an operations role supporting break/fix requests.
• Minimum 7 years of experience supporting enterprise level facilities and networking implementations/operations.
• Minimum 7 years of experience upgrading, replacing, and decommissioning networking gear.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with Cisco Nexus, Cisco Catalyst, and Palo Alto based products.
• Minimum 5 years supporting network operations in a NOC like setting.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting inter-site connectivity via IPSec tunnels, VPNs, and layer 2 or dark fiber connections.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience support firewall layer 3 and 2 configurations, ACLs, VPN tunnels, remote access, and security reporting.
• Strong knowledge of network administration fundamentals (minimum CCNA).
• Experience with IT operations and incident response.
• Experience troubleshooting technical hardware and software issues in an operations-based systems, software, network, and security capacity.
• Azure cloud networking experience is a plus.
• Experience with Healthcare IT is a plus.

Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the Medical Faculty Associates (MFA). Must be able to do math calculations and input data into the computer.

Supervision Received
Supervision is received from the Infrastructure Operations Team Manager.
