Job Purpose

Job Purpose

This role maintains the company's enterprise network both wired and wireless in addition to various network appliances and servers related to supporting the network LAN/WAN. This role is responsible for designing and implementing the company's network infrastructure, resolving advanced support issues, and mentoring the junior network engineering staff in a technical manner. Collaborates with other infrastructure teams, developers, business analysts and other business stakeholders to determine requirements and design/deploy systems to meet business and technical objectives, SLAs, performance and availability, capacity requirements, monitoring and alerting, capacity planning, and disaster recovery.

Performs installation, maintenance, and upgrade of networking products, including appliances, routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, DHCP/DNS, remote access systems, network management systems and cloud-based networks. Develops and documents defined network standards.

Monitors network connectivity and ensures a high quality and high performance network. Plans and evaluates network system's capacity and performance requirements to ensure the network meets subscribed needs. Analyze forecasts, capabilities, and costs to plan how the network will operate and determine how to meet growing capacity requirements while ensuring reliability within the network. Develops back-up routing plan on network to alleviate congestion, handle failures, or accommodate demand. Continuously measures network traffic load.

Plans, designs, deploys, tests the system performance of a wireless network. Creates, documents RF (radio frequency) plans and designs, conducts radio propagation modeling and prediction values to determine cell site location and conduct cell site/antenna design activities. Development of standards relating to the RF design and operation of the network. Automates tasks and monitor their effectiveness.

Provides technical support to various departments and users with regards to LAN/MAN/WAN (local/metropolitan/wide area networks). Serve as liaisons with internal departments, vendors and other third-party providers. Works with minimal supervision, has latitude for independent judgment. May mentor less experienced peers and display leadership as needed.

Stays knowledgeable of emerging trends and industry best practices. Ensures compliance with network and engineering standards and guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Solid background in network security, administration, and architecture.
  • In-depth understanding of next-generation firewalls, wireless solutions, routing, and switching technologies.
  • Familiarity with access control models and authentication methods.
  • Experience with common network vendor solutions. (Fortinet, Cisco, Cradlepoint).
  • Analytical troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with backup and business continuity and disaster recover concepts and methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Organizational and mentoring skills


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred

·   Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP)

·   Retail or grocery experience
