SUMMARY

The Cyber Security Engineer reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is responsible enforcing information security policies to protect the college's computer infrastructure, networks, and data against cyber-attacks and internal threats. The primary functions of this position include monitoring cyber security threats and performing pre-established measures to mitigate impact of the threats. The Cyber Security Engineer I will work closely with all divisions to resolve day-to-day operational security issues.    


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Assists in developing a comprehensive security plan that assesses current security vulnerabilities and research effective strategies for long-term protection of the College's IT and data resources.
  2. Serves as primary point-of-contact in reviewing threats and vulnerabilities and designing a mitigation strategy.   Assist Data Center and Network Manager (DCNM) with industry best practices research to ensure appropriate products and standards are implemented to protect the college from vulnerabilities and unauthorized access.
  3. Work collaboratively with DCNM monitoring the College's security prevention and detection solutions, both internal systems and external, and third-party services that provides protection for the college's network infrastructure/systems.
  4. Monitors processes for ensuring authorized access to college resources including permission violations and approving the revoking of permissions as needed.
  5. Communicates and collaborates with CIO to develop and implement technology refresh security plans and risk assessments.
  6. Communicates and collaborates with individuals at all organizational levels to identify, plan and execute continuous improvement of protecting systems and programs from digital attacks.
  7. Promotes and coordinates planning, developing and implementing programs, projects and systems which may involve more than one IT unit or user group across campus.
  8. Responsible for implementing the technical controls of the information security program, policies, and procedures for the College. Assists with the protection of College data.
  9. Responsible for ensuring that all programs, activities, and series comply with college, state, and federal regulations.
  10. Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.
  11. Employees are required to adjust their standard work schedule to meet the requirements of their position, which includes and not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain College operations.
  12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration or other related degree with one year of experience preferred.
  • Associate’s degree with two years’ experience in Cyber Security or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS


  • Security+, CEH or equivalent certification
  • Experience with firewalls, ACLs, and endpoint security.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Python, C#, PHP, Drupal, SQL, Java
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Cloud application platforms, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, IIS
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.
  • Skill in examining and evaluating operations and developing and/or redesign operating strategies, systems, and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and work effectively in a team environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Generally, works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Some walking, standing, and bending required, and the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
