About Us: The Investment and Portfolio Solutions (IPS) team for Americas develops investment research, portfolio construction, and market insights for clients. Our mission is to tie investment insights and portfolio analysis to commercial solutions across iShares (active and index) ETFs, active and alts platform for both institutional and wealth clients. The platform team within Americas IPS builds, scales, and supports solutions for IPS team strategists and consultants to create market insights, portfolios, risk analyses, and peer studies, among other deliverables, to help clients obtain more optimal portfolio outcomes.

Role Overview: We are looking for an enthusiastic Vice President-level Lead Developer and Data Engineer to join the platform team. The ideal candidate will help build capabilities that team strategists and consultants will use to address client portfolio construction and investment strategy needs. This position is situated in a fast-paced environment and will provide significant exposure to BlackRock’s client businesses, the BlackRock’s Aladdin technology, and portfolio analytics and construction techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in a collaborative environment to develop solutions and services that use BlackRock’s Aladdin platform to deliver portfolio analytics.
  • Interact with consultants to understand their client portfolio consulting analytics needs and develop portfolio analysis solutions.
  • Develop solutions primarily in Python and SQL.
  • Test and validate solution analytics and data to ensure clients are receiving accurate and timely information.
  • Rollout, ongoing support, and documentation of solutions and services.
  • Assist consultants on high-priority client projects that require technical/scaling assistance.
  • With experience, take ownership of assigned projects; responsibilities may include leading work and projects done through other internal teams at BlackRock, potentially in other locations, and external vendors.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Experience of Python Programming with a deep understanding of core libraries and concepts.
  • At least 3 years of experience in data engineering or software development
  • Knowledge and experience addressing data quality, scalability and reliability.
  • Understanding of data pipeline implementation and management
  • Experience working with relational/non-relational and cloud databases (MS-SQL, Sybase, Postgres, and Snowflake), and understanding of storage technologies
  • An interest in and general understanding of financial markets, including drivers of return and risk.
  • Familiarity with BlackRock Aladdin toolset is helpful.
  • Undergraduate degree is required, and an advanced degree (Masters) is a plus within a technical field (Computer Science, Mathematics or related field).
  • Work experience with financial and markets preferred.
  • High level of proven ownership over work product and project engagement.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot software issues
  • Ability to work and deliver under minimal direction/independently.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal skills (both written and verbal) to work with, train, and support users of platform tools and processes.
  • Ability to work efficiently and multi-task in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.


 

For California and New York City only the salary range for this position is $190,000 - $240,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
