The Senior Network Engineer is an essential part of the Digital Innovation and Technology Services department and ensures the integrity, security, and scalability of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s network and infrastructure systems. This position is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the museum’s network infrastructure, cloud services, and cybersecurity defenses. The role requires advanced technical skills and certifications, with a primary focus on resolving complex technical issues, conducting in-depth analysis of infrastructure capabilities, and leading new implementations to enhance the museum 24/7/365-day operations.  


Reporting to the Director of Technology, this role emphasizes specialized technical expertise in network architecture, cybersecurity standards, and infrastructure management automation, to name a few. The Senior Network Engineer takes ownership of network and infrastructure improvements, proactive system optimizations, and compliance with cybersecurity protocols. 


 


Requirements and Certifications  



  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in network administration, systems engineering, and IT infrastructure management. 

  • Required Certifications: at least 2 of 4 

    • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or higher 

    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) 

    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate 

    • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent cybersecurity certification 



  • Preferred Certifications

    • VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) 

    • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) 

    • Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) 



  • Expertise in Cisco, Meraki, VMware, Azure, and Microsoft ecosystems. 

  • Proficiency in firewall management, virtualized server environments, Wi-Fi technologies, and network automation tools. 

  • Advanced understanding of cybersecurity principles, including endpoint protection, patch management, and risk assessment. 

  • Proactive communication to flag leadership on high-risk issues involving network and infrastructure concerns.  

  • Demonstrated ability to create detailed infrastructure documentation, perform network audits, and manage large-scale implementations. 


Language Skills: 
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical stakeholders. 


Reasoning Ability: 
Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment. 


Physical Requirements: 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. 


 


Key Responsibilities 



  • Network Architecture & Optimization 

    • Design, implement, and manage a highly available and scalable network infrastructure, ensuring it meets the museum’s operational needs (24/7/365) and growth objectives.

    • Automate network and systems management processes using advanced network monitoring tools and scripts, reducing manual workload and ensuring continuous network performance.

    • Manage core network services, including switching, routing, DNS, DHCP, SSL certificates, and VPNs, ensuring high availability and security of the museum’s infrastructure.

    • Oversee and implement the integration of cloud services (Azure, AWS) with on-premise infrastructure, optimizing both environments for seamless operation and scalability. 




 



  • Cybersecurity Leadership

    • Lead the implementation of advanced cybersecurity protocols, including firewall management, intrusion detection, vulnerability scanning, and secure access controls.

    • Continuously monitor and respond to security threats, vulnerabilities, and incidents, working closely with the cybersecurity team to remediate risks.

    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as PCI-DSS and GDPR, through periodic audits and updates of security policies.

    • Manage cybersecurity tools like Tenable, Microsoft Secure Score, and SIEM solutions, driving threat detection, response, and mitigation efforts. 




 



  • Advanced Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

    • Lead the resolution of complex network and systems-related issues, employing advanced diagnostic tools and methodologies to prevent recurring problems.

    • Analyze network performance metrics and perform capacity planning, ensuring systems meet both current and future needs of the museum’s digital operations.

    • Provide escalation support to junior engineers and technical staff, offering mentorship and training on advanced network and system topics.

    •  Work in collaboration with the Director of Technology Operations to troubleshoot and problem solve issues.
       





  • Infrastructure Documentation & Vendor Management

    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the network infrastructure, including hardware inventories, software configurations, and cloud integrations.

    • Work with vendors on the procurement, deployment, and support of network and security-related products, ensuring they meet technical and budgetary specifications.

    • Participate in vendor contract negotiations and manage relationships to ensure the timely delivery of services and equipment. 




 



  • Infrastructure Projects & Continuous Improvement

    • Plan, budget, and execute infrastructure projects, including hardware refreshes, network upgrades, and cloud migrations, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.

    • Continuously research emerging technologies in networking, cloud services, and cybersecurity, recommending new tools or processes that can improve operational efficiency and security.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network infrastructure aligns with overall digital strategy and supports museum initiatives.
