BTI is seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for configuring network elements for new deployments and service upgrades, supporting documentation for audits, defining and transferring knowledge, and remediating vulnerabilities. The role involves designing and administering, alerting and monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Thousand Eyes, PRTG), developing automation for repetitive tasks, and aiding in the definition and prediction pipelines for network health. The successful candidate will also proactively identify network trends and performance issues, driving operational efficiency by continually evaluating, improving, and automating processes, procedures, and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Configure network elements for new deployments or service upgrades. On premise and cloud.
Document processes to support audits, define MOPs, and transfer knowledge.
Remediate vulnerabilities and manage hardware lifecycle replacements.
Design and administer alerting and monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Thousand Eyes, PRTG).
Develop automation for redundant tasks to optimize operations and implementations.
Aid in defining and predicting network health, availability, and service-level objectives.
Proactively identify and resolve network trends and performance issues.
Drive operational efficiency by evaluating, improving, and automating processes, procedures, and systems.
Minimum Requirements:
3+ years of experience working in a network environment supporting routing and switching functions.
1+ years of professional software development experience automating system processes is a plus.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Bachelorβs degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or CCNA Certification, CCIE, and/or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certifications.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred, but GCP and Azure also acceptable).
Understanding of switches, routers, firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ISIS, BGP, OSPF, HSRP, LACP, MPLS, dual stack (IPv4 & IPv6), IP addressing, and IP network design.
Knowledge of Ethernet, fiber optics, 802.1Q VLANs, VRF (Virtual Routing and Forwarding), IPSEC (Internet Protocol Security), ACI (Application Centric Infrastructure), and VxLAN (Virtual Extensible LAN).
Strong analytical and communication skills, including handling customer critical issues and resolutions.
Experience using networking tools such as Thousand Eyes and SolarWinds.
Automation skills with technologies like IBM Cloud Pak, AWX Tower, Bash, and/or Python.
A proactive approach to identifying the best solutions.
Certifications from other networking or cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure) or performance monitoring tools.
More CISCO certifications are a plus: CCNP, CCIE.
Advanced understanding of complex network topologies and architectures. Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture a plus.
Skills in optimizing network performance and ensuring uptime.
Knowledge of Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) technologies and their integration with Thousand Eyes.
Skills in securing networks and understanding security protocols.
Knowledge of compliance standards relevant to network security and performance.
Strong problem-solving and project management abilities.
Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
Practical experience in network engineering performance monitoring and using the Thousand Eyes platform.
Familiarity with industry-specific requirements for network performance monitoring in federal or state networks, utilities or telecommunications.
