In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with peers across Technology, translating business requirements into high-performing technical solutions. You'll be responsible for developing and maintaining Group Life Insurance applications that play a critical role in our business. To succeed, you’ll need to quickly gain an in-depth understanding of Group Life applications, TAL’s agile delivery framework, and the intricacies of the insurance domain. We’re looking for someone who can work autonomously and proactively, ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions while remaining adaptable to changing requirements.

We value candidates who have experience with modern, cloud-based API development or a strong desire to develop their expertise in this area. If you already have experience working with cloud platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solutions, that’s a big plus. Key Accountabilities:

  • Understand the technology strategy and systems roadmap for Group Life and produce technical designs that are in alignment
  • Break down user stories into tasks and provide sizing estimates
  • Develop reliable, usable software which meets business requirements within the required timeframes while minimising technical debt
  • Develop efficient, effective, secure and highly available solutions
  • Provide Level 3 support for the software that the team builds
  • Script and execute automated tests as required
  • Write user stories as required
  • Assist other team members when needed
  • Resolve issues and risks within your immediate control and escalate when necessary
  • Support the Development Manager to optimise the team’s operations
  • Contribute to the strong culture of high quality, continuous improvement and innovation by following existing standards, helping to identify and enforce improvements to standards as required and sharing ideas and experience 
  • Contribute to the long-term maturity and future-proofing of the Group Life applications

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • IT or a related field qualification
  • 8+ years as a software developer & 5+ years with .Net technologies including digital solutions development with modern UI/UX frameworks
  • In-depth knowledge of web development frameworks such as Angular, React and JQuery, SQLserver, services (including WCF/RESTful/microservices), front-end builds and components, modern API development, cloud technologies such as Azure or AWS
  • Experience with middleware technologies
  • Experience with Test Driven Development practices
  • Agile environment experience
  • Iteration Management experience

Desirable Qualification and Experience: Tertiary qualifications; Financial Services/Insurance/Life Insurance industry background; experience developing with headless CMS or Sitecore; experience working with Jira, Confluence & behaviour driven development.
